Q. I am considering purchasing the 6 cyl galant, how is this car...? i will be trading in a 2003 cadillac CTS but I like the galant because of the great warranty it comes with.

A. Are you sure they said timing belt? Timing belts don't generally scream, they are internal and if not working, your vehicle won't run. Perhaps they said serpentine belt, more likely, which can get glazed and cracked and slip and scream, louder as you accelerate. In either case, cost will be the cost of parts, plus the labor rate times the number of hours to fix the problem. If it's the timing belt it will be more since covers will have to be removed, etc. Serpentine belt is fairly simple.

A. Normally the fluid pump is on the bottom of the fluid resevior. You may be able to get to it from the bottom of the car or you might have to take the front bumper off. If you can get to it, it should just be a matter of unpluggin and removing the old one and installing the new one.

A. Well it can be done. Enjoy the costs and fabrication. You'll need an a543 transmission as well as a remote oil filter, custom exhaust, custom motor mounts, etc... You'll need a new ECU, and if you're going with the turbo engine, you'll need different cams, rods, pistons, and you can't go side mount for your intercooler since there's no room. But then again, you'll also have to swap the block since they're different, so essentially you're looking at a full engine swap.

A. First make sure you realize that the Eclipse and Galant models have a very common problem with the connectors that plug into the bulbs. They melt and cause the bulbs to only light up dim. That being said... Pinch the tabs on the bulb connector and wiggle the connector off. Pull the rubber cover off next. Look inside at the bulb and press the retaining wire in and unhook it from it's latch in the assembly. Pull the old bulb out and note the cut out mark on the edge of the silver plate that the retaining wire was pressing on. Install the new bulb in the same position and make sure it feels like it's in, if it rocks it's not in correctly. While holding the bulb in position, flip the retainer wire over the bulb and hook the wire into the… [cont.]

A. A bad oxygen sensor could tell the engine that it's running to lean and cause it to pump more fuel than needed. Also, a bad mass airflow sensor could tell the engine that it's getting more air than needed, causing the same problem. the average user mileage, according to fueleconomy.gov, is 24.5 miles per gallon, which would be 10.4 KPL. Go to an auto parts store and get them to use a codescanner on the vehicle. Not all codes will cause the check engine light to come on, and this will allow you see if the cars computer is saying anything is wrong.

A. The seats themselves can got for (front two only) $200 - $500 from ebay, craigslist or a junk yard. Swapping them is fairly simple BUT in order to have heated seats, the car you are putting the seats into have to have the electrical connectors already. It's rare that a car without heated seats will have the electrical connectors there for an upgrade later. In addition to that you'd need the switch to turn them on and adjust the setting, if applicable. Generally speaking, to put heated leather seats into a car that didn't originally have heated seats would be a big pain.

2001 Mitsubishi Galant Overheating at idle/hissing noise?
Q. My '01 Mitsubishi Galant and it has recently been overheating at idle and making a hissing noise accompanied by a rubbery smell when stopped. I checked the coolant and it was full and I have already replaced the radiator on this car. Could it be a hose leak? I just replaced a hose but maybe it wasn't done properly?
